Our Story

The Story

Luopu and Chidera have chosen creative mediums of expression in order to disrupt challenges that we, Black artists, face and to give space for creating work without limitation by the mainstream. When we first met via the Impact Entrepreneurship Fellowship at The New School, we connected on our similar intention to build sustainable communities for Black artists. We applied for the New School Research award and have been granted $5000 to hold a retreat in Staatsburg, NY from Saturday, March 11- Tuesday, March 14, 2023 as well as an installation taking place the first weekend of May. We will use these funds to cover all costs involved such as transportation, accommodation, food and supplies. We hope that the retreat and exhibition can be a launchpad for building and sustaining Black artistic community that revolves around principles of openness, care, and nature. We aim to continue this tradition of Black life in nature beyond the retreat and installation
